Pavilion Compounding Pharmacy Offers Sterile Compounding
Sterile compounding services represent the most critical aspects of Pavilion Compounding Pharmacy.
Because they have unusual dosing requirements, allergies or rare diseases, many patients have unique needs when it comes to medications. Compounding pharmacies create compounded medication, which are drugs mixed and prepared specially for each patient. Sterile compounding pharmacies are especially important for those who need sterile medications. Sterile compounding services, like those provided by Pavilion, help meet the individual needs of patients that might not otherwise have access to the sterile medicines they need in the right concentrations and dosages.
Sterile compounding is especially important for many drug preparations, such as ophthalmic sterile compounds for eye drops, pain pumps that deliver analgesics into the vein, and inhalation therapy that delivers aerosolized medicine into the lungs.
The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) is an official entity that establishes very strict standards to ensure that medications are safe and effective. The USP’s General Chapter <797> covers pharmaceutical compounds using sterilized medicines. It requires sterilization of medications intended for administration via:
- Injection
- Intravenous (IV) infusion
- Intraocular – injection into the eye
General Chapter <797> outlines the procedures for making compounded sterile preparations (CSPs). The intent of the USP’s General Chapter <797> is to “prevent patient harm and fatality from microbial contamination (nonsterile), excessive bacterial endotoxins, large content errors in the strength of correct ingredients, and incorrect ingredients in CSPs.”
Pavilion Compounding Pharmacy meets and exceeds standards set by USP’s General Chapter <797>.
