With the recent shortage of Levothyroxine (T4) for dogs, Pavilion Compounding Pharmacy is pleased to offer compounded Levothyroxine for your furry friend. Levothyroxine is commonly used to treat hypothyroidism in both humans and dogs.

Signs of hypothyroidism include hair loss, usually on your dog’s trunk, back of the rear legs, and tail. Other signs include weight gain, muscle loss, sluggishness, and intolerance to cold. Your dog’s vet will do a series of blood tests if they suspect hypothyroidism. The good news is this disease isn’t life threatening if properly treated.

Working with your vet, Pavilion Compounding Pharmacy can compound Levothyroxine into a chicken or beef flavored capsule, chewable treat, or a flavored oral suspension. Doses vary based on the size of your dog and the route of administration. Dogs metabolize Levothyroxine differently than humans, and as a result often need a higher dose. Pavilion Compounding Pharmacy can custom make the exact dose that is needed.

Cats usually have the opposite problem: hyperthyroidism, or over-active thyroid. Pavilion Compounding Pharmacy provides a transdermal cream that contains methimazole to help our feline friends manage hyperthyroidism. This cream is applied to the hairless portion of the cat’s inner ear, usually once or twice a day.

As always, Pavilion Compounding Pharmacy donates 5% of our sales from your veterinary compounded medication to our friends at Angels Among Us Pet Rescue. Supporting our local organizations is important to our community and we encourage donations to this wonderful organization.

Give us a call or e-mail to discuss how we can help your dog with the back order of Levothyroxine products.
